So, whats gonna happen?

Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Lent

Todays Readings:
Dn 3:14-20, 91-92, 95
Dn 3:52, 53, 54, 55, 56
Jn 8:31-42

Again we get another glance at some of the sacred stories from the prophet Daniel. This is one of those bible stories I remember from my childhood memory. The three men who refused to bow down to the golden image and were thus thrown into the fiery furnace. God is faithful, and today we get a glimpse of God’s faithfulness by the saving of these three men. But I think the as equally faithful are these three young men.

In their dialogue with King Nebuchadnezzar, Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego made the statement that if God can save us, then may he save us, but if he will not, we still won’t bow down. We now that God is faithful and merciful, but these men do not presume that God will act according to our will, according to when we want him to act.

True trust in God is displayed not by our presumption that God will act because we ask him to, but by our faithfulness even when we God doesn’t respond the way we’d want him to.
